What it does.

Record the conversation, keep the transcript

Record from the menu bar, then transcribe the recording. The transcript is written beside the audio in your recordings folder.

Both sides, in stereo

System audio on one channel, your microphone on the other, so the whole conversation lands in one recording.

Two transcription engines

Whisper supports many languages; Parakeet is a faster English-only option. Transcription quality depends on the recording.

Speaker diarization

Optionally separate the transcript by speaker.

How it works.

1. Click the menu bar icon, pick your microphone, and start recording.
2. Stop when you are done. The recording is saved to your recordings folder.
3. Transcribe it with Whisper or Parakeet, and speaker diarization if you want it. The transcript is written beside the audio.

Questions.

Does it use the cloud?

Your recordings are transcribed on your Mac and are never uploaded. LocalScribe needs internet access to download its on-device models, activate and periodically validate your license, and check for updates. Once activated and the models are downloaded, transcription works offline.

Does it record?

Yes. LocalScribe records system audio and your microphone, then transcribes the recording on your Mac. macOS asks for microphone and screen-recording permission the first time you record.

What can it transcribe?

Recordings you make with LocalScribe, and other audio files you choose from the menu bar.
